In front of a Palestra crowd of 9,000 and counting, Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball took down mighty foes in the 1964 Quaker City Tournament. The tournament win marked their second title in three seasons, this time over Wichita State. As the story goes, Wichita State coach Gary Thompson vowed never to return to the Palestra, calling the perceived home-court advantage “a damn farce.” Saint Joseph’s fans surely disagree.
